NDIANAPOLIS, IN (April 19, 2018) – From Phoenix to Long Beach and now to Birmingham, Rising Star Racing’s (RSR) are set to compete in its third consecutive weekend of fierce open-wheel competition at Barber Motorsports Park.

Josef Newgarden (Team Penske) and Spencer Pigot (Ed Carpenter Racing) will compete on behalf of RSR where they will battle the 2.3-mile, 17-turn road-course in two separate series.

Art Wilmes, RSR’s founder and CEO, offers his support to his drivers; but, attributes their independent successes at Barber Motorsports Park as the true success for RSR as a group.

“Barber Motorsports Park has been an RSR favorite. Josef collected his first IndyCar career win there in 2015 and repeated in 2017,” Wilmes said. “Before his debut in IndyCar, Spencer collected four victories across the Mazda Road to Indy Series.”

Newgarden, the 2017 Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama victor and 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series champion, is eager for the competition after a seventh-place finish in last weekend’s race in Long Beach.

“We had a decent finish at Long Beach, but we’re definitely hungry for more. Barber is one of my favorite tracks we visit – not just because we’ve won there; but, because it’s a cool track and is only a few hours away from where I grew up,” Newgarden said. Continuing, “Barber is going to be interesting since it’s the first time we’re racing the new car on a natural terrain road course. I think it could lead to some really exciting racing…”

Pigot welcomes the weekend’s competition, as he and his ECR team prepare for a better finish.

“It’s been a tough start to the season so far. Our results don’t show the quality of cars that we have had,” Pigot said. “Barber is definitely one of my favorite tracks, the fast corners and steep elevation changes are pretty unique and a lot of fun to drive. The track has been very good to me in the past, so I hope that trend will pick back up this weekend.”
