After capturing the 2011 Indy Lights championship, Josef Newgarden joined Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing in 2012. All 67 of his Verizon IndyCar Series starts occurred with what is now Ed Carpenter Racing. The 2015 season was a breakout year for the Tennessee native with two wins, two second-place finishes and one pole. Newgarden remained a championship contender through the season finale, finishing a career-best 7th in the standings. For the 2017 season, Newgarden joined the venerable Team Penske. He recorded his first win for the team in the No. 2 car at Barber Motorsports Park.
